Are you keen to learn Chess?

If you are keen to learn but have found it difficult to find a teacher, then you are in the right place. As a player who still remembers what it is like to be a complete beginner, I can teach you in a way that is simple, making sure that you do not get overwhelmed and confused.

Rather than spending countless hours pouring through YouTube videos, learn a more principled approach to the game, face to face with me. This is more enjoyable and the information is likely to sink in better too.

Your first session - 60 minutes

In the first session we will establish what you know and go from there. I will explain the fundamentals and give you very specific examples to work with. We will play a game too and I can explain things as we play.

We will cover basic tactics, make sure you understand all the rules and also discuss some simple strategic ideas.

Ideally we will meet in person, but if you are too far away we will do an online session. I can explain how that works - you will need a Lichess account.

Who are these sessions suitable for?

• If you never learned and now want to

• If you only know how to play the moves but have no tactics or strategy

• If you play a bit but have become confused about how to get better

• If you are just curious about the game and want to see what it is all about

• If you were taught but not in a fun way

• If you are looking for a very rewarding experience that will last you a lifetime

• If you want to meet other players who you can play with (I can introduce you to some others)

Who are these sessions NOT suitable for?

• If you are already a more advanced player who knows openings, tactics, strategy

• If your rating is above 1200 you may want a more advanced coach ( feel free to chat to me though)

Costs

$50 /hour for 1 person (in person if close, or online if you are further away from Newport, Victoria)

$35 each for 2 people 70 minute session

$30 each for 3 people - 75 minute session
