GROUP Chess

Why Chess?

Chess is a fascinating game. It offers the chance to see how well you can use your mind. The positions are endless and the strategy and tactics are a never-ending maze of intrigue!

Chess can also be a lot of fun when you approach the game in the right manner. I will teach you how to do this! When you learn with me, you will be able to zone in on a single idea, but also be able to pull back to see the bigger picture, which is vital not only in Chess, but in life!

I will teach you strategy, tactics and how to play using a Chess clock!! Learning to manage your time while playing to the clock is very important in Chess.

My aim is to give your group the fundamentals so you can then play! I have an extensive teaching background so can adapt the session to the needs of the group. It is highly recommended that everyone at least knows how the pieces move.

If you have never played, I suggest that you start with a private lesson so you can get plenty of attention and advice. Go here for private sessions.

An introduction to Chess - 60 minutes

If you and your team are a little short of time, but still curious, why not try our short 1 hour program.

While it is very hard to learn a lot in an hour, it will still give you a feel for the game and you could always do the longer program at another time.

GROUP CHESS

If you are part of a group, looking for a team experience, why not try a Chess program! Chess is a very good way to sharpen your thinking and develop your ability to work under pressure. It can also be a lot of fun when it is taught right!

My aim is to deliver a program that makes everyone feel comfortable and help you to learn without feeling silly! It is not an easy game, so I make sure you are given the basics without overwhelming you with too many ideas.

My background as an educator, facilitator and coach means I can adapt my approach to ensure it is right for you and your team, regardless of your age, education or Chess knowledge.

Take a look at the two program templates below or simple get in touch to see if I can customise and experience for you, your company, a group of friends or even your family!!

Introductory program - 2 hours

The introductory program is 120 minutes. In this time the group is given the basic rules of Chess and broken into teams to play. Games are played using a clock so there is some pressure to think and there is a result.

Participants play in teams of 2, 3 or 4, ensuring that there is a teamwork element to the fun and friendly competition. A short debrief at the end of each game will help to improve performance and critical thinking in the next round.

Advanced program - 3 hours

The more advanced program goes a little deeper into the strategic and tactical aspect of Chess. It is still able to be taken on by beginners as the longer time frame allows for more learning.

The program still works as a team format, but with the addition of time there is also the opportunity to play some solo games. Once again, the clock is used and there are some other games as well to spice it up!

β€œThe Chess program was original, engaging and terrific fun. The relaxed settings combined perfectly with the team challenges presented throughout the session. Highly recommended!”
